Pride is More Than a Celebration- It’s a Powerful Reminder that Visibility Matters

We’re honored to share & highlight the incredible love stories of our LGBTQIA+ couples as we plan their best day ever!

Lucas and Jacob

Lucas & Jacob’s Love Story

Every love story starts somewhere. For Lucas and Jacob, it began with a simple trip to the grocery store.

The couple first met on a dating app while they were both in college. Lucas was heading out to stock up on groceries and invited Jacob to come along. What could have been an ordinary errand quickly turned into something much more meaningful.

“We ended up having a really fun time, and it didn’t feel awkward at all,” Jacob recalls. “I decided to ask him to dinner afterward just so we could spend a little more time together.”

What started as a casual first meeting quickly grew into a strong connection. As they spent more time together, they discovered just how naturally they fit into each other’s lives. When Lucas was ready to propose, he planned a moment that perfectly reflected their story.

The proposal took place beneath the gazebo at Elizabeth Park Rose Garden, one of Connecticut’s most beautiful landmarks. Determined to keep the ring hidden, Lucas brought along a raincoat on what was otherwise a hot, sunny day – a suspicious choice that thankfully didn’t give away the surprise. Their beloved dog, Fletcher, was also there to share in the special moment.

As they look ahead to their wedding day, Lucas and Jacob are focused on creating a celebration that feels true to who they are as a couple: beautiful, relaxed, and centered around the people they love most. One tradition they are especially excited about is sharing private vows before the ceremony.

“We tend to be private people, and getting a moment to celebrate with those closest to us in an intimate setting amongst all the chaos felt very meaningful,” they shared when discussing their plans for the day. “We wanted something simple, easygoing, yet beautiful at the same time,” they explained. “As soon as we saw the willow trees, we could envision ourselves saying our vows and having everyone who is special and close to us around us.”

When searching for the perfect venue, they found themselves drawn to The Barns at Wesleyan Hills. The property offered exactly what they were envisioning: a setting that felt welcoming, effortless, and naturally beautiful. The scenic grounds and peaceful atmosphere made it easy for them to picture their future celebration surrounded by family and friends. Every detail of the venue aligned with the vision they had for their wedding day.

As they continue planning, Lucas and Jacob have one piece of advice for other couples beginning the process:

“Have a clear vision in mind, but be willing to be flexible and adaptable. Focus on yourselves and what you want for your day, and don’t forget to have fun.”

From a grocery store first date to planning their dream wedding beneath the willow trees, Lucas and Jacob’s story proves that sometimes the most extraordinary love stories begin with the simplest moments.
